DC Comics will not support AI-generated storytelling or artwork. Not now. Not ever. Maybe just a tad...
DC Studios took down a behind-the-scenes featurette for Supergirl from YouTube after viewers spotted AI-generated concept art of Jason Momoa as the character Lobo. The featurette, titled "Lobo - DC Dream Behind The Scenes," showed director Craig Gillespie's team using AI-generated imagery, drawing negative reactions across X, Threads, and Reddit.
The use of AI concept art clashes directly with public statements from DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, who has repeatedly rejected generative AI for creative work, and DC Comics head Jim Lee, who declared at New York Comic-Con 2025 that "DC Comics will not support AI-generated storytelling or artwork. Not now. Not ever." The featurette remains available in the Extras section of the Supergirl digital release. No statement has been issued by DC Studios, Warner Bros., or Gillespie.
