We know Claude is part of how many of you get work done, and we appreciate your understanding.
On the morning of September 3, 2026, ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Gemini all experienced outages or degraded performance at roughly the same time. The cause was not immediately clear. OpenAI attributed its problems to "a routing error starting around 7:43am PT" that made ChatGPT and Codex unavailable; Anthropic cited "an infrastructure issue" that hit Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and the Claude API simultaneously. Google and xAI did not respond to press inquiries.
Perplexity, for whatever reason, was fine. Anthropic's spokesperson offered the most candid framing of the situation: "We know Claude is part of how many of you get work done." The outages were visible on Down Detector from around 9:00 a.m. ET onward.
