"Don't let it be a clusterf--- like America.gov." — JD Vance, at the America.gov launch
The White House's new AI-powered government portal, America.gov, launched by JD Vance at a Washington AI conference, greeted users with "Hello, America" beneath a carousel of 11 photos meant to evoke everyday American life. A Daily Beast analysis found that at least six of those photos were stock images shot in Madrid, Warsaw, Beijing, Tallinn, Vigo, and British Columbia. The Beijing photo illustrated how to change your address. The Warsaw photo illustrated job-seeking. The Estonia photo illustrated small business.
The stock images were licensed through Stocksy, a company headquartered in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The lead engineer credited by Trump at the launch ceremony was Edward "Big Balls" Coristine, 20, a former DOGE staffer. Vance, at the launch, told the crowd he had instructed the team not to let the site be "a clusterf--- like America.gov" before clarifying he meant Healthcare.gov.
